Description: The latest developments in mobile technology has produced a new type of smartphone devices. Smartphones are mobile phones that offer different capabilities with ordinary mobile phones in which the same function more or less the same as the computer. Features of technology and social tools make it a useful tool in social sciences, especially sosiology, social psycology, urban studies and media studies. The device can be programmed to interact with other users and can communicate with remote applications such as WhatsApp, Wechat, Facebook and others. In addition, smartphone users now not only adults but also teenagers and children of various ages and races. Has become a necessity to the students to have a smart phone though its price is so high that some are willing to use the money PTPTN to buy it. This research was conducted to investigate the factors that affect the likelihood of purchasing smart phones among students of the Department of Commerce in Polytechnic. In this study, the trend of an acquisition is measured from three important factors, namely the current trends, needs and ubiquity. To achieve its objectives, the feedback gathered from respondents regarding the major factor in purchasing trends among students. A total of 100 respondents were randomly selected among the students of the Department of Commerce in the Polytechnic and the survey method used to distribute the questionnaire to selected respondents. The findings of this study were processed using the SPSS system (Statistical Package for Social Science). The findings indicate that ubiquity factors is the major factor the purchase of smart phone among Commerce Department students, Seberang Perai Polytechnic, followed need factor and finally the trend factor.
